[03.05.2008@7:30 PM EST] Thurston Farm Purchase |
In 2007 Green Thumb Farms purchased Riverside Farm from long time friend and neighboring Fryeburg farmer Harold Thurston and his wife Clara. The increased acreage allows a more complete crop rotation, preventing growth of the same crop on the same field in consecutive years. This is an important step in improving the sustainability of agriculture in the Saco River valley.
We now grow approximately equivalent acreage of potatoes and dry corn for feed and fuel. For information about dry beans, stove corn, or feed corn please visit our contacts page to find out how to visit us.

[03.05.2008@7:30 PM EST] Northeast SARE Grant Awarded |
Green Thumb Farms believes that the contributions farms and farmers make to the body of agricultural knowledge are some of the most valuable contributions available. For this reason we have applied for a farmer research grant through the Northeast branch of Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education grant program for the 2008 growing season. This grant will work with our new organic plot as well as our conventional fields to study variations in pesticide resistance of Colorado potato beetles.
As of Wednesday, March 5th this grant is now being funded. |
